Joseph B. Williams died at the home of his daughter August 27, 1930.
Mr. Williams was born in Union county October 6, 1841, and was therefore, nearing his 89th birthday. He was an old Confederate veteran and fought in the Civil war. He was married to Jane Eliza Cox, October 22, 1865. She died August 19, 1909. Surviving are one brother, six children; 35 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at Smyrna church, conducted by Rev. C. P. Hill. His body was laid to rest in the Smyrna cemetery.

WILLIAMS, J. B., Private - Resided in Burke County where he enlisted at age 20, February 1, 1862, for the war. Present or accounted for until wounded in the left foot at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 1, 1863. Reported absent wounded until he rejoined the company in January-February, 1864. Present or accounted for until captured near Petersburg, Virginia, October 27, 1864. Confined at Point Lookout, Maryland, until released on June 21, 1865, after taking the Oath of Allegiance.
